BNFS Train Tickets- Guide on Getting a Refund and Ticket Cancellation
BNSF Railway Company is a North American Class I railroad network with headquarters in Texas. Though it operates mainly as freight for coals and grains, they also operate commuter trains. There is Metra Rail, Metrolink, Northstar, and Sound Transit. We wrote this BNFS Railway guide in case you want to buy, or get a refund on your passes.

As of March 23, 2020, Metra will operate at an alternative weekly schedule as per mandates. Check out the new schedules in this link. Please health protocols and maintain social distancing.

Tickets Types
- One-Way Ticket – non-refundable and can be used 90 days from the date of purchase
- 10-Ride Ticket – non-refundable, good for one year, can be shared by people
- Monthly Unlimited Ride Pass – non-transferable, good for a month, able to have weekend travel across Metra system with no additional cost (with Reduced Fares)
- $10 Weekend Pass – unlimited rides on Saturday and Sunday
Refund Policy
For those affected by the virus: Monthly Passes will be refunded on a percentage basis depending on the date returned with no handling fee (standard is USD 5, but is currently waived)
- 100% on Day 1
- 85% on Day 2
- Reduction of 5% per day (e.g., Day 3 – 80%, Day 4 – 75%, Day 18 – 5%)
- You can’t get a refund when it’s beyond business hours on the 18th day
Other tickets are non-refundable
How to Get a Refund from BNSF Metra
1. For Ventra App – e-mail [email protected] and provide your username, e-mail addressed used and order number
2. For those who purchased through Vending Machine – submit your Ticket to a ticket agent
3. You can also get a refund form and attach your monthly Ticket, original receipt of CC, a copy of the credit card used (if such is used). Mail it to this address:

Tickets Types
- One-Way Ticket – non-refundable, can be used 1 year from purchase date
- Round-Trip – Same day ticket, can be used 1 year from purchase date
- $10 Weekend Pass – unlimited rides on Saturday and Sunday
- 7-Day – unlimited rides in one week
- Monthly Unlimited Ride Pass – unlimited travel for a month, non-transferable tickets

Refund Policy
The following conditions can be refunded:
1. If Ticketing Machine has malfunctions causing monetary loss
2. Circumstances beyond customer’s control (e.g., medical, loss of employment, stolen property except those lost or damaged)
3. March Monthly Pass – due to the outbreak
- If not used, you can get a full refund
- If partially used, a prorated credit will be given
- Credit is valid through December 31, 2020
How to Request a Refund
1. For those who purchased a paper ticket or pass:
- Fill up the Paper Refund Request Form and attach a copy of your ticket or pass and supporting documents
- Receive a confirmation e-mail
- (If Ticket or pass isn’t expired) Send the original ticket and confirmation e-mail to this address

There are no refunds or replacement for tickets unless:
- There are ticket machine problems
- ORCA Card is not dispensed
- There was no load on your ORCA Card
