Best “Instagrammable” Resort in Mauritius – Outrigger Mauritius Beach Resort

By Kach Umandap August 3rd, 2017 Posted in Africa Travel Blog, Destination, Luxury Hotel Review, Travel Blog 3 Comments

After three luxurious days in the East of Mauritius, I moved to the southwest of Mauritius. To recap, I started this trip in the north to try scuba diving, then I moved to the east for the private beaches and golf, and finally, I am in the southwest of the country. I checked-in to another 5-star property, Outrigger Mauritius Beach Resort. It is a big brand with many properties worldwide in countries like Hawaii, Guam, Thailand, and Maldives.

The property is incredibly beautiful. It is so “Instagrammable”! Everywhere you look, there is something nice to see and appreciate.  Everywhere you go, it is just beautiful. The beach stretches for long. There is a nice dock. There is greenery everywhere. More important, even if there are lots of guests, it does not get crowded and there is more than enough space for everyone. The resort is just so big and quiet. It is perfect for families and couples. But in general, it is simply a relaxing place to be in.

A True 5-Star Experience

The hotel arranged a pickup for me from the other property where I stayed in the East. Going from the east to Bel Ombre, which is in the south of the country took about an hour and 45 minutes. I went via a good quality taxi called Connections Mauritius which you can book via www.connections.mu. The company provides a host of services like airport transfers, car transportations, and tour arrangements.

At the hotel, there was a show and drinks at Bar Bleu when I arrived. It was very chilled out. You can try different cocktails. This was just the start of many activities that I did during my stay. These activities were arranged for me by Zubair, the PR Executive of Outrigger Mauritius Beach Resort. He joined me the whole time I was there.

A really amazing experience was the complimentary massage at Navasana Spa. It was a very good massage. From Four Seasons, this is my third massage in a row just after two days. The lady focused on my head and feet. The massage is supposed to be only 60 minutes but the lady gave me an 80-minute massage. It was really good. I am not really stressed out but the massage sure made me feel even better!

Then, I had wine and cheese tasting at Rouben’s Wine Room with Fred, the Sales and Marketing Director of Outrigger Mauritius Beach Resort. He is very knowledgeable and I learned new stuff with him. It took about three hours and it was so much fun!

The next day, they arranged an Electro-bike Discovery Experience for me. This is unique to Mauritius. An electro-bike is a bike with an electric motor. It provides assistance and propels you forward without too much effort. You still need to pedal but you are able to cover longer distances in less time. And this is nice because you get to be in the outdoors and see beautiful Mauritius outside of the usual touristy places. Riding an electro-bike is a good way to stay active and at the same time enjoy nature.

In general, I had a very relaxing and pleasant time at Outrigger Mauritius Beach Resort. The service is really awesome. For instance, on the day of my departure, I had to leave early to go to Johannesburg, around 530 AM. The restaurant was still closed but the hotel organized a good breakfast package for me at the reception. That was very nice of them. Then, Connections Mauritius got me another pickup in an SUV, which was really smooth. The airport was only 40 minutes away from the hotel.

The Rooms

I had a Beach Front Room. I stayed for four days and three nights in my own Beach Front Room with absolute beach frontage. It was very good.

Everything was big! I had a King-size bed, big TV, big bathtub, toilet, shower, and two sinks on my wash area. Also, I had my own veranda overlooking the ocean. Plus, they even gave me a small bottle of rum that I can try! Mauritius is popular for sugar cane and now they are creating more rum with it.

All the rooms at the hotel are luxurious and really spacious, accommodating between three to six people. Sizes vary from 63 sq m to 130 sq m. Each has a King bed or twin beds. Family rooms can add bunk beds or roll out beds. Amenities include air-conditioning, LCD TV with cable channels, balcony with deck chairs, blackout drapes, coffee and tea maker, Wi-Fi, mini-bar, hair dryer, safe, and phone.

The Facilities in Outrigger Mauritius Beach Resort

Navasana Spa – Find bliss in the many treatments offered at the spa. There are 13 luxurious treatment rooms, a seaside beach kiosk, and private couples VIP cabin. Indulge in the signature therapies and go on a journey to serenity just like I did!

Recreational activities – There are so many things to do here. Complimentary recreational facilities include glass bottom boats, snorkeling, sailing, mini-sail boats, kayaks, paddle boats, windsurfing, stand-up paddle, tennis, beach volleyball, table tennis, and bocce ball. If that is not enough for you, there are more paid recreational activities to try such as sailing lessons, kite surfing, deep sea fishing, catamaran excursions, speed boat tours, dolphin tours, scuba diving, quad and biking tours in the Nature Reserve, and 18-hole golf. There is no way you will be bored around here!

Coral Kids Club – A fully supervised indoor and outdoor activity center, this place allows children to have a really fun experience. Indoor arts and crafts, outdoor team sports, and evening events are some of the things to occupy the kids. A kids pool with water slide, special kids buffet, and spa treatment for kids are all available at the hotel, too!

Other facilities at Outrigger Mauritius Beach Resort include four swimming pools, tropical garden, parking, concierge, fitness center, international currency exchange, laundry and dry cleaning service, and transfer services, and tour and car rental desk.

The Food in Outrigger Mauritius Beach Resort

Breakfast, lunch, and dinner were included in my stay. During my first night, I had dinner at Mercado Restaurant. It is an interesting place because it has a market dining concept. One section has Indian food, another has Asian food, Mediterranean the next, and so on. It is a celebration of international cuisines and the food was amazing.

Then I had lunch by the beach at Edgewater. This beachfront restaurant offers a wide variety of food, from the usual sandwiches to sophisticated European food.

But the best part was dining at The Plantation Club. It is a French Colonial restaurant that is exclusive for guests staying in the suites or villas. But I was able to have breakfast and dinner there, which is amazing. It serves modern Mauritian food and includes free flow beverages. It also has a wine room, tea library, private pool, and outdoor lounge. It was one lovely dining experience!

Area Guide

Seven Colored Earths – This geological formation is a popular tourist attraction in the area. It is comprised of sand dunes with seven distinct colors, particularly red, brown, violet, green, blue, purple, and yellow. The dunes look like it has stripes of different colors!
