Mystik Life Style Hotel – Best Accommodation for Solo Traveler in North Mauritius

By Kach Umandap July 24th, 2017 Posted in Africa Travel Blog, Destination, Luxury Hotel Review, Travel Blog One Comment

Mauritius is known for heavenly beaches and my stay at Mystik Life Style Hotel in Mont Choisy offered me a front-row seat to this popular treat. The waters are crystal clear, the sand is a powdery white, and best of all, I did a scuba dive here from the best teacher on the island, Mr. Neysen Pillay of Dive Dream Divers!

To start this story, my flight from Madagascar got canceled but luckily the lady there said that she liked me so she decided to move and rebook me to another airline for free. I was supposed to fly with Air Madagascar but ended up flying with Air Mauritius and it was really a nice flight – better plane than the other one! Lucky monkey!

I arrived late in the evening and was so happy to be picked up by my new friends, Karen and Emilie of Mystik Life Style Hotel in the North of Mauritius. It was really nice because getting from the airport to the north takes more than an hour’s drive. Of course, I was very happy for the easy transfer!

Not only that, they arranged our dinner and asked me if I wanted to go diving. Who would say no? We just bought our sailboat and I was really keen to get my PADI diving certificate since my sister Krista has been telling me to do that ages ago. Before this, I have done three discover scuba diving trips but nothing compares to getting the PADI diving certificate. Also, it was a lot of fun!

The Beautiful Northern Side of Mauritius

This country is extremely beautiful. Let us begin with the northern side. Tourism is busiest here, particularly at the Grand Bay. But because there is loads of activity, this means that you can taste the best of Mauritius here: tours, parties, restaurants – name it and it will not take long to find a really good place to satisfy you.

There are many sugar cane fields here. They can be found in an area called Pamplemousses. Many attractions are also located here like the Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam Botanical Gardens, Château Labourdonnais, and L’Aventure du Sucre.

In terms of beaches, I stayed in Mont Choisy and this is ideal if you prefer a quieter and less chaotic atmosphere. It has a small beachside village appeal and is generally not crowded compared to other areas in Mauritius.

Other notable beaches around Grand Bay include Trou aux Biches, Cap Malheureux, and Pereybère. It is best to see them now while they retain an unspoiled charm. These places are fast developing and will probably be crowded in the near future!

Port Louis is the capital and 330 km of the 1,865 sq km area is beautiful coastline! They speak English, Creole, and French here. For the best views of the islands, go to Cap Malheureux. It is off the coast and provides the most dramatic views of the coin de Mire. From here, about 6 km east, you will find the Grand Gaube. It has a relaxed and beautiful beach but minus the touristy vibe. It is a great place to see and meet the locals.

The Rooms

Easily, Mystik Life Style Hotel presents some of the most beautiful views in the Indian Ocean. This seafront hotel lets you experience the beautiful beach of Mont Choisy. Enjoy endless days under the sun and spend every minute living in this tropical paradise.

Here, you get the best value for your money. Rooms cost $100 per night, which is the regular rate of budget accommodation in North Mauritius. But Mystik Life Style Hotel gives you a most pleasant stay. It has a boutique feel to it with its nice white entrance and all. You just get more from what you pay for!

Bright and vibrant, the 35 rooms feature a contemporary design with subtle touches of local craftsmanship. Each abode has a comfortable bed, flat-screen TV, air-conditioning and ceiling fan, en-suite bathroom with shower, kitchenette with Nespresso coffee machine, courtesy tray with Kusmi tea, microwave, induction plates, mini-bar and electric kettle.

Everyone has a terrace that offers views of the lagoon and the beach. Whether you select a Deluxe Room, Standard Room, and Standard Sea View Room, you are sure to have a comfortable and pleasant time here.

The Facilities

Infinity pool – Soak in the sun and have a pleasurable dip in the outdoor infinity pool. Have a drink or two and relax throughout your day.

Sun terrace – The wooden deck is perfect for days when you need some downtime after indulging in all the activities that Mauritius offers!

Cinema lounge – Movies, documentaries, and other shows can be enjoyed in this room with a large-screen projector. There are board games that you can use, too.

Diving Center – The best thing about Mauritius is the water so experience it fully. This dive center, led by one of the most experienced partners in Mauritius, is sure to lead you to great experiences underwater. You will love it!

Garden – Add more calm to your vacation by walking around the nice garden.

Parking – There is ample space!

Laundry services – No need to go out and look for the nearest laundromat. Just have your clothes washed at the hotel!

The Food

The restaurant at Mystik Life Style Hotel is cleverly named #36 Resto and Bar. Why #36? Because the hotel has 35 rooms and it is a natural extension of it!

Breakfast choices include Continental, Parisian, English, and Mauritian. Mauritian breakfast comes in the form of a Mauritian loaf sandwich with cheddar, banana, and corn pudding. The coffee is really good!

For lunch and dinner, there are lots of options. You can have burgers, pasta, steak, tacos, curry, and seafood. But the staples in the Mauritian table are octopus salad, curries, and fresh fish.

They also serve a lot of scrumptious sandwiches and wraps plus local street food like samosas, chili bites, and bajas for snacks.

Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam Botanical Gardens – Known as one of the world’s best botanical gardens, this popular tourist attraction is named after the first prime minister of independent Mauritius. Highlights include the pond with giant Victoria amazonica water lilies, palms in a wide variety of shapes and forms, and abundant birdlife.

Château Labourdonnais – Located in Pamplemousses, this historic building is a prime example of colonial architecture found on the island. Completed in 1859, it features an Italian neoclassical style and is filled with Victorian furnishings. Guided tours are available, as well as a nice garden, gift shop, distillery, and restaurant.

L’Aventure du Sucre – This interactive museum is a former sugar factory founded in 1797. It tells a lot about the story of sugar, how you turn sugar cane into crystals, and you can also taste 15 varieties of 15 unrefined sugar, two of which were invented on the island. There is much to learn about the history of Mauritius, slavery, and rum trade, too.

Rivulet Terre Rouge Bird Sanctuary – Located in Balaclava to Pointe aux Piments, this sanctuary is a delight to birdwatchers. It is one of the largest estuary habitats on the island, attracting large populations of birds and species. Come during October to March to see the best of the flock!
