How to Cancel Reservation and Get Refund with Eurostar [Step by Step Guide]

By Two Monkeys Travel - Contributor March 28th, 2020 Posted in Europe Travel Blog, Travel Blog 7 Comments

Eurostar is a high-speed railway that connects London with Amsterdam, Avignon, Brussels, Bourg-Saint-Maurice, Disneyland Paris, Lille, Fréthun, Lyon, Marseille, Paris, and Rotterdam. With the convenience it brings, a lot of customers book their tickets with Eurostar to travel across Europe.

And, if, unfortunately, you have to cancel your trip due to personal or uncontrollable reasons, you must know if it’s applicable for you to do that when you purchase your ticket. In this article, we’ll focus on Eurostar and how you can cancel and get refunds with this high-speed railway.

Note: Please remember that passengers are entitled to a full refund for both Standard and Standard Premier bookings if your trip is canceled by Eurostar.

Eurostar Cancellation and Refund Policy

As what Eurostar stated, passengers’ refund request all depends on which travel class they chose and how they booked their ticket. Read them below.

Online bookings – Standard or Standard Premier

If you will not continue your trip, you don’t have to cancel. These tickets are non-refundable but you can change your ticket before the scheduled departure of your original train (it is subject to availability). You will need to pay a fee (£30 for Standard, £40 for Standard Premier) plus any difference in fare. It is per person per leg of the journey. If the new fare, however, is less expensive, unfortunately, Eurostar can’t refund the difference.

How to Change the Ticket in Eurostar

Step 1: Go to eurostar.com

Step 2: Select “Manage Booking”.

Step 3: Enter your six-letter booking reference and last name to log in.

Step 4: Just click “Change journey dates or times” and follow the next instructions.

If you don’t feel like doing it online, you can do it over the phone or in person. However, there’s a service fee of £10 per transaction that applies to Standard and Standard Premier bookings and exchanges made over the phone or at the station.

Online bookings – Business Premier

If you booked at eurostar.com, you can still cancel your trip and get a refund up to 60 days after your scheduled departure – with the exemption on Netherlands routes.

Business Premier tickets to Amsterdam or Rotterdam Centraal are flexible until departure, but after the train’s scheduled departure time, you can’t exchange or get a refund.

Step 3: Enter your six-letter booking reference and last name to log in.

Step 4: Just click “Change the Journey” and follow the next instructions.

Eurostar will send you an email when it’s all done. The amount of refund will appear in your account within five working days.

Phone and Station Bookings

If you booked your ticket over the phone or at the station, you won’t be able to arrange your refund online.

What you should do is send an email to Eurostar or call them via this number:

03432 186 186 / +44 (0)1233 617 575 (if outside the UK)

Just make sure that you have your six-letter booking reference ready. Also, a service fee of £10 per transaction applies to Standard and Standard Premier bookings and exchanges made over the phone or at the station.

Please remember that all Standard and Standard Premiere tickets in Eurostar are exchangeable but non-refundable. And these are all subject to availability and fare difference may apply. And as for Eurostar, these changes also have fixed fee of £30/€40/$55 (in Standard) or £40/€50/$60 (in Standard Premier) per person per leg to be exchanged.

You can exchange your ticket with the same class or even upgrade to Standard Premier but it should have the same route as the original journey booked.

And for the Business Premiere Tickets, they are fully exchangeable and refundable before and up to 60 days after departure. No fees and no difference in fare apply.

Note: Eurostar stated that “Tickets for journeys between Lille and Brussels are non-exchangeable and non-refundable.”

  1. My wife and myself are hoping to travel to Germany and back, traveling on the Eurostar train between London and Brussels on August 8th 2022, leaving London at 9:01, and returning on the Eurostar train between Brussels and London on August 17th 2022, leaving Brussels at 12:56.

I notice from your website, that should the Eurostar train get cancelled, for whatever reason, we would be entitled to claim a refund.

If, for example, it was our intended London to Brussels train on August 8th that was cancelled, it would mean we would have to scrap our entire trip as a later train wouldn’t work for us.

Would we be entitled to claim back a refund on both the outward London to Brussels journey (Aug 8th), and the return Brussels to London journey (Aug 17th). Especially if we had booked the tickets on your website as a return journey trip..? We are intending buying Standard Tickets.

    Kind regards,

    Tony.

  2. We have to cancel our trip to London and Paris due to the Coronavirus pandemic. I contacted Eurostar and asked for a refund but they will only give me a travel voucher good for 12 months. We are not able to travel to London and Paris in 12 months so that doesn’t work for us, we need a refund. We paid $912.00 USD for our (4) tickets. Do you know of any one who can help me get a refund? Who governs Eurostar?

    1. Hello, thank you for the heads-up. However, this article discusses how you can cancel reservation if the passenger is the one who will cancel his/her trip, not by Eurostar. 🙂 But I will update the article, and I will add the information you gave me. Thank you so much! 🙂

      1. Hi Fatima, could you please confirm that the Business Première tickets in the London Amsterdam service are fully refundable if cancellation done in advance ?
        Regards.
