FAQs on the International Driving Permit or International Driver’s License

1. Why do I need AAP Membership, I only need the Driving Permit?

PIDP is an exclusive benefit of an AAP member since emergency assistance by FIA-affiliated associations can be availed if you are one.

2. Where can I drive with a PIDP?

You can drive in almost all countries. However, they will differ on how many years the IDP will be valid for 1 or 3 years.

3. I have a student permit; can I use it?

No, you need to have a Professional or Non-professional driver’s license.

4. When will my IDP Expire?

It depends on how many years you have chosen. However, if it is less than your driver’s license, then it will expire together with it. For example, you have an International Driver’s valid for one year starting January 2019, but your Philippine Driver’s License is valid up to October 2019, then your PIDP will expire in October 2019 too.

5. Can I renew even when I am abroad?

Yes, you can; you need a Letter of Authorization and pay both AAP membership fees and PIDP fees.
