Exploring a large city like Dallas can be intimidating. Where do you begin? What places are worth visiting? Do you have enough time to see everything? Answering those questions alone can be confusing, let alone starting your tour of Dallas.

3. Enjoy a cold one at Deep Ellum Brewery

One of the best known Brewery’s in Dallas, Deep Ellum Brewery is located in the funky arts neighborhood, Deep Ellum.  Every Saturday they open their doors for a quasi-brewery door, serve beer, food and have live music in their patio area.  Try out their beer all over Dallas, but if you have a free Saturday afternoon, this is a great experience.

4. Get your culture on at the Dallas Museum of Art

Located in the affluent Arts District of Dallas this museum has been home to great pieces of art since the 1980s. The building was designed by Edward Larrabee Barnes, a much-honored American architect and the area around it has developed as it’s drawn more traffic.

The museum holds over 24,000 objects and often hosts special and limited exhibits. Within the last few years, the main museum collection became free to the general public.  So get to Dallas and take in some Renoirs, Rodins, and Monets.

6. Fill up on food trucks at Kylde Warren Park

Directly across from the art museum is Kyle Warren Park build over the Woodall Rodgers Freeway in 2012.  This park is open to the public but operated by the privately run Woodall Rodgers Park Foundation.  This is a unique urban green space that connected the Arts District to other neighborhoods.

The best part? They built in an area along the side of the three-block park specifically for food trucks.  There is a rotating selection of trucks there daily providing everything from lobster rolls to ice cream.  Check out the park website for a list of upcoming food trucks.

7. Take a walk through history at the Sixth Floor Museum

The most famous historical event to take place in Dallas is surely the JFK assassination on November 22, 1963.  Visit Dealey Plaza in downtown Dallas and see the JFK tribute, the X that marks the spot, and walk on the famous grassy knoll.

After that make your way to the sixth-floor museum which is housed in the old Texas School Book Depository.  This is where Lee Harvey Oswald shot from, and it now houses a museum that covers the life, presidency, and death of JFK.

8. Enjoy a margarita as only Texas makes it

Visit Mariano’s Hacienda, the home of the original frozen margarita machine.  Over 40 years ago a young restaurateur, Mariano Martinez helped revolutionize the tex-mex market by introducing the world to the first frozen margarita machine. Facing a difficult, time-consuming task of keeping up with customer’s orders he was inspired by a slushy machine at a local 7-11 and quickly got to work.

His original machine is now hosted in the National Museum of American History, but you can still go to his restaurant on Skillman and enjoy an icy cold, perfectly consistent margarita today.
