Mercure London Hyde Park in Paddington: A Boutique Style Hotel Which Will Captivate You With Its English Charm

By Kach Umandap December 21st, 2017 Posted in Best Luxury Hotels, Destination, Europe Travel Blog, Travel Blog No comments

After one year of traveling around and focusing on our sailboat, we’re finally back in the UK! We’re only staying for a couple of days to celebrate my mother-in-law’s birthday, run some errands, meet friends, etc.

If you’ve traveled around London, you should have noticed how small and expensive the hotels are. We couldn’t splurge on hotels right now as refurbishing S/V Empress is already taking up so much of our savings. Good thing Mercure London Hyde Park Hotel sponsored us once again. And not only that– they surprised us with the gorgeous Pearl Suite Room which is one of the best and biggest rooms they have!

We have been living on a sailboat for almost a year now and lying down on such a huge and comfortable bed, walking on our lovely terrace, watching movies on a huge flat screen TV (I don’t know if you know this but I LOVE watching TV! I can stay up all night just doing it), and a posh rain shower with heater really really felt wonderful 🙂

Mercure London Hyde Park Hotel is an exclusively designed boutique hotel, tucked away in a peaceful and lush garden square. It is situated in a perfect location which is just a 2-minute walk from Paddington Station (which is perfect because we arrived from Montenegro) and on the cusp of London’s iconic Hyde Park. It is built on one of the most exclusive of quintessentially London Victorian mansions with an English charm which you’ll surely love.

THE ROOMS AT MERCURE LONDON HYDE PARK HOTEL

The Mercure London Hyde Park offers 72 newly furnished and contemporary bedrooms in one of the most elegant and central boroughs of London. The hotel is situated overlooking a garden square, and each room is an oasis of calm and luxury equipped with full modern amenities.

Designed with a modern and traditional British feel, the rooms feature complimentary high-speed Wi-Fi, exclusively branded toiletries and laptop-sized safety deposit boxes to make your trip all the more enjoyable, relaxing, and stress-free.

Each room has a state of the art LCD flat screen HDTV television (which I love) plus a fully complementary in-room entertainment package. The handy smartphone comes with the compliments, keeping you connected to your world with local or international calls to selected countries and internet access with 3G data free of charge.

Their bathrooms are all fitted with a walk-in shower and specified to the highest standard with the very best fittings to complete the luxury townhouse experience. Moody feature wall tiles complete the feel while the underfloor heating provides you warmth on the cold nights. Complimentary still and sparkling mineral water, bathrobes and tea and coffee making facilities are also provided.

You can choose between the Classic Double Room, Standard King Room, Standard Twin Room, Superior King Room, Family Room and Junior Suites.

AREA GUIDE

One of the major selling points of this hotel is their strategic location. Within minutes of walk, you’re bound to parks, museums, and shopping centers.

Portobello Market and Merchant Square- Within a short distance from the hotel are the Portobello Market and Merchant Square where you can experience shopping and dining the 18th Century style. Choose from over 40 shops and restaurants and keep yourself updated with their events. If you don’t fancy splurging, street food along Merchant Square is always a good idea.

The Wallace Collection- This art gallery is a feast for your eyes where you’ll see a huge array of paintings, furniture, porcelain and much more in their 25 galleries. It is also a feast for your pockets as this historic town-house turned gallery has the free admission which allows you to enjoy the works of Canaletto, Rembrandt, and Gainsborough without shedding that extra pound!

Hyde Park- One of the 8 Royal Parks in London is only a stone’s throw away from the doors of the hotel. If you have the luxury of time, why don’t you pack a picnic and take in the historical landmarks situated in and around the 350 acres of land? Watching the rowing and pedal boating activities on the River Serpentine could be ideal too!

St. Mary’s Hospital- Paddington is famous for this hospital for the reason that this is where the Nobel Prize winner Sir Alexander Fleming revolutionized the world of medicine with his discovery of penicillin (I’m sure you’ve used one at least once in your life!). It is also where Prince William, Prince Harry, Prince George and Princess Charlotte were all born.

Little Venice- This is a canal area where you can find waterside cafes and pubs. Enjoy a walk along its pretty and colorful streets where you may take a trip to ZSL London Zoo or Camden.

Heatherwick’s Rolling Bridge- this was designed by the award-winning Heatherwick Studio and installed at Paddington in 2004. The twelve-meter bridge is made from eight triangular segments, which fold towards each other, forming an octagonal sculpture that stands on one side of the canal towpath.
