Strategically located within the bustling Causeway Bay area of Hong Kong and a five-minute walk to the nearest subway station, J Plus Hotel by YOO is the perfect choice for those who want to relax and unwind after a long day of shopping and eating. On its 10th anniversary in 2014, the chic hotel got the ultimate makeover from the YOO Studio design team, founded by its original designer Philippe Starck and entrepreneur John Hitchcox. The new, more modern look is seen from the exterior of the building up to the details of the bedroom, and best fits the fast-paced and style-conscious market.

First time in Hong Kong? Here are 7 awesome things to do there!
Aside from attracting customers through its quirky elements, J Plus Hotel by YOO has also won numerous awards in the hospitality industry. It was voted as best boutique hotel in Asia by Conde Nast Traveller, and consistently earned Tripadvisor’s highly coveted Certificate of Excellence from 2011 to 2015. It also received the Golden Circle Award from Agoda.com last year.
My brother and I had the chance to stay for two nights in J Plus Hotel by YOO during a recent trip to Hong Kong. And as promised, the hotel delivered and went beyond our expectations. It was a great place for us to recharge after our Hong Kong walking tour, and its avant garde design was just too beautiful to not post on social media.

HIGHLIGHT OF THE PROPERTY
Proximity to the transport system is always a huge consideration when looking for a place to stay. In the case of J Plus Hotel by YOO, having the Causeway Bay MTR station just a short walk away makes everything convenient.
As this is Causeway Bay, one of the prime shopping areas in the world, expect J Plus Hotel by YOO to be surrounded by shopping centers, high-end malls, boutiques, and street stalls selling anything and everything. Its location along Irving Street is very strategic for the hotel, as one need not travel far or take the train just to do some shopping.
Another highlight, and probably the one that is most unique to J Plus Hotel by YOO, is the Handy smartphone that guests can use for free. Yes, this hotel lends a smartphone to its guests! Aside from unlimited local calls and international calls to some countries, the device may serve as your personal mobile phone since it also comes with unlimited 3G data connectivity, WiFi hotspot, and an electronic travel guide and discounts. How awesome is that?
My brother and I ditched the idea of getting a local SIM card for our data needs and decided to just connect to the phone’s hotspot. It was super fast and we didn’t feel like our phones were fighting over the connection. It really helped us a lot especially since our stay there coincided with the launch of Pokemon Go in Hong Kong!
As the first boutique hotel in Hong Kong, J Plus Hotel by YOO has mastered the art of customer service. We arrived before the 2:00 p.m. check-in and the room wasn’t ready yet, so they allowed us to leave our bags while we have lunch and explore the area. Check in was a breeze when we came back, and our bags were already in our room when we arrived.
Although I wasn’t able to meet their Senior Marketing Manager Eunice who I have been exchanging emails with, we were properly endorsed to the hotel staff and they were all very attentive. We were briefed of the hotel’s amenities and given our keys.
During breakfast, the staff is always around to clean up tables and refill the food and drinks. As Hong Kong is a fast-paced city, expect people moving around swiftly that there are times you will have to look for yourself. Of course, should you need any assistance, the staff is always available to help you in any way.
The Suite Plus room assigned to us was on the 21st floor, and boy oh boy, it was really spacious and colorful! When we got out of the elevator, I saw that there were only two doors, which means that there are only two units on that floor. So imagine how big it was for just two people.
J Plus Hotel by YOO has 32 studios and 24 suites, all of which come in any of these four refreshing and vibrant color themes: Dreamy Pink, Tangerine Joy, Sunshine Yellow, and Tranquil Blue. Ours was in Sunshine Yellow, and there was indeed a certain radiance in our suite, from the walls to the carpet.
Over all, the room was more than what we expected, especially for Hong Kong where space is a luxury. Here, we had huge living and dining rooms, three large closets, an ample-sized toilet and bathroom, a bedroom with a very comfy bed, a working area, and a well equipped kitchen with all the cooking essentials you will need. They even managed to squeeze in a day bed on the area behind the television! I’ll let the photos speak for itself.
Even if J Plus Hotel by YOO is a boutique hotel, the food they provide are of high quality and are more than enough to get you through the busy day.
The breakfast buffet here might not be like those of other luxury hotels, but it’s best suited for those on the go and need a quick energy boost to start their day. Their continental spread includes different kinds of cereal, fruit, bread, and cheese, with unlimited servings of coffee, tea, and fruit juice.
Complimentary wine is also served to all in-house guests from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. It’s the perfect drink to have while you spend some time in their very interesting lobby and marvel at the artworks and exhibits. If you’re not a wine person, just grab a glass and pour yourself some juice or have some tea or coffee which are all available 24/7.

1. If you haven’t booked your tours yet, you can use the installed app in the Handy smartphone. Choose from the many tourist spots or tour packages listed on the phone, and with just a few clicks, you are all set for the day’s activities.
2. J Plus Hotel by YOO still uses keys instead of keycards. Make sure to lock your door from the outside before leaving using the key provided. We almost failed to lock our door the first time we got out.
3. Should you buy takeout like we did, don’t worry if your food becomes cold as there is a microwave for reheating. We bought takeout from Little Bao since it was a bit early for dinner and were able to reheat our food when we returned.
WHAT TO DO AROUND/WITHIN THE AREA
1. Shopping (what else?) – SOGO Department Store, Hysan Place, Lee Gardens, Fashion Walk, and Times Square Hong Kong are just some of the countless shopping places that surround J Plus Hotel by YOO.
2. Stuff yourself with pork rib rice – Found along Cleveland Street is Delicious Kitchen, the home of the very popular Pork Rib Rice. Don’t leave Hong Kong without having a taste of this tourist favorite.
3. Have your coffee fix from Elephant Grounds – After having a hearty lunch in Delicious Kitchen, take a short walk to the next street for some coffee or dessert in Elephant Grounds. Get ready to line up as the crowd could be a bit overwhelming sometimes, but it’s definitely worth the wait.
4. Book a food tour with Eating Adventures – Bring out the foodie in you and join a food tour that will introduce you to the culinary delights of Hong Kong.
