Grand Hotel Villa Serbelloni, Bellagio — A family owned luxury boutique hotel located in the charming town of Bellagio Italy. Built in 1850 and turned into a hotel in 1873 with 95 ensuite deluxe luxury rooms. The hotel was a renowned holiday spot of the famous European royalties, government dignitaries and Hollywood stars. The hotel offers a high-end luxury boutique accommodation and tailor-made services that guests might require.
On our recent Interrail trip, we explored the gems of Italy discovering the Italian’s magnificent arts, culture and delicious food. We ventured from the Campania region in the south up to the Lake district in the north. After staying for a few nights in Desenzano del Garda by the beautiful Lake Garda, we visited the famous and most loved lake in Italy — Lake Como.
The town of Como is a few hours travel from Desenzano del Garda via Milan. From this little town, you can see the southern part of the lake and its beautiful cliff side houses. After we arrived in Como, we picked up our rental car and headed towards the northern part of the lake to the small village of Bellagio. The inspiration of the famous hotel in Las Vegas is named after this charming little village.
After the 50 minutes drive from Como, we reached Bellagio. Located right at the tip of the fork where the two lakes — Lake Como and Lake Lecco spilt. We were so privileged to experience the elegant and luxurious stay in Grand Hotel Villa Serbelloni.
The scenic landscape of Bellagio surely captured our hearts. The beautiful snow capped mountains, the serene lake, the sophisticated Italian villas that were nestled at the foot of the mountains and the refreshing crisp breeze made us feel we were in nirvana.
We stayed in one of the Deluxe rooms with the lake view. The grandeur of the hotel is obvious on the red carpet laying upon the marble staircase that leads us to the receiving area and onto our deluxe room. The Deluxe room that we had was linked to another room and can be used a family room.
The room was filled with classic wooden furniture, Murano chandelier and patterned design carpet and wallpapers. The bed, linens and pillows were so comfortable. Smoking inside the room is permitted. I was surprised when the reception told me that smoking was allowed as it’s considered to be your private abode, therefore, the public laws of non- smoking is not applicable.
The spacious bathroom was complete with bathrobes and slippers. The luxury toiletries from La Bottega were provided as well. His and hers sinks were totally a hit!
The view from our bedroom was outstanding! The view of the Lake Como was so beautiful with the snow- capped mountains in the backdrop. You can also see from our window the villa where the Star Wars (Planet Naboo) & James Bond (Casino Royale) movies were filmed.
The Grand Hotel Villa Serbelloni is the only 5-star hotel in Bellagio and one of the few luxury 5-star hotels around Lake Como. The hotel has ticked all the boxes in terms of hotel amenities and facilities readily available for the guests.
The hotel has an indoor and outdoor swimming pool on the lower ground floor of the hotel near the spa. Shower & changing rooms with lockers are available. We absolutely loved the indoor heated pool, perfect relaxing spot since its too cold to swim in the outdoor pool. The kids pool is also available and the there is a lifeguard on duty during the opening hours.
The hotel’s spa offers an array of relaxing massages and facial services.
A fully equipped fitness centre is available for the guests and private members. They also have a squash court, sauna and jacuzzi.
An inviting lounge area in front of the reception available for guests.
The Grand Hotel Villa Serbelloni has two restaurants, the Mistral – a Michelin star gourmet fine dining restaurant and the La Golleta – the Italian / Mediterranean restaurant of the hotel near the poolside.
The Mistral gourmet restaurant has the fantastic view of lake Como while being serenaded by the live music. Dinner cost ranges around 100 – 200 euros per person.
During our stay we dined in La Golleta – the galleon inspired restaurant of the hotel. The food was outstanding and amazingly delicious. Dinner cost ranges around 30 – 60 euros per person.
We had a lovely breakfast in the grand ballroom. The room was fully decorated with elegant Murano chandeliers, carefully painted Al Frescoes on the high ceiling and surrounded by big Italian windows that let the morning sunshine thru the thin curtains. The hotel had an excellent selection of hot and cold food options to choose from!
The staff were very attentive and hospitable. From the moment, we stepped out of our car on arrival; we were welcomed by the helpful concierge who also parked our car and sent our luggage to our respective bedrooms.
The warm welcome of the reception team was truly outstanding. The dining and breakfast staff are very attentive and anticipated our needs. I’m genuinely impressed by the customer service.
The Grand Hotel Villa Serbelloni is located in Bellagio. There are different ways to reach Bellagio from Milan:
You can reach Bellagio via regional trains from Milan. You can either get the train to Como or Varena – Esino from Milan. This will take around an hour to 1.5 hours train ride to reach this stations passing through the beautiful Italian landscape.
From Como, you can either take the bus to Bellagio or hire a rental car. The bus (C30) ride will take you more than an hour due to the number of bus stops, winding and narrow cliff side roads.
Alternatively, private transport can also be arranged thru the hotel’s concierge either by luxury car, private helicopter or private boat.
A few steps away from the hotel is a fantastic viewing point in Bellagio; you can see where Lake Como and Lake Lecco meets. The refreshing breeze of the wind, the gentle waves of the lakes and the snow-capped mountains in the background was just outstanding.
Bellagio is a little town so it won’t take you the whole day to go around it. The high street near the port was filled with shops and restaurants. It is not a busy town so you can enjoy the relaxing and charming Italian feel of the area. A perfect place to unwind and recharge away from the hustle and bustle of the city life.
